When to Buy Pet Insurance?

2 Mins read

Do you know you can insure your pet, just as you insure your house or yourself?  Many have termed pet insurance as an expensive expense that is not worth it, which is not true. If you love your pet, then you will understand the need for pet insurance. For those who don’t know about pet insurance, perhaps you should take some time to go through this article.

When getting insurance for your pet, there are several things you should keep in mind. Among them include knowing the best time to take pet insurance. There is no fixed time or situation to take pet insurance.  However, there are times when your dog or cat is exposed to much danger than usual.

What happens when your dog bites someone and you have no cent to cater for the medical bills of the victim? What if your pet falls sick and you have no money to pay the vet? Will you let your pet die because you have no money?  As much as pet insurance can be bought at any time, there are several occasions when you need it the most.

As soon as you acquire the pet

There is no reason to keep waiting for a specific time to buy your pet an insurance plan. Who knows, an accident can occur at any time. Your pet can fall sick a day after you buy it. If you don’t have a pet but need one, you will have to buy it from someone, right?

Immediately you bring a dog or cat into your house, get it insured right away. It is the best way to mitigate certain risks that the pet may be exposed to. Besides, it shows that you love and care more about your pet.

When your pet gives birth

If you have a female pet, it is likely to give birth to other small pets. Existing insurance only covers the mother pet and not the younger ones.  In this case, you will have to take insurance for the younger pets. Don’t take too long to insure your newly born pets as they are more vulnerable to risks.

When your pet is getting older

As you age, your immune system weakens and you become vulnerable to diseases.  The same goes for pets as well. The fact is, you are likely to spend more on an older pet compared to a young one in terms of care. Besides, there times when you have to euthanize your older pet since you can’t bear seeing it suffer.

If your pet is getting older, and you haven’t insured it, it is not yet late. You can still get pet insurance for a limited period.

During harsh climatic conditions

Some seasons come with harsh climatic conditions. During the rainy or cold season, your pet has a higher chance of getting sick. Extreme cold is bad especially for hairless pets or those with short hair. Such conditions require you to have pet insurance in case the worst happens.

In a nutshell, pet insurance is vital and can be bought at any time. However, if you haven’t insured your pet, perhaps the above information will change your mind. Get pet insurance today.
